So, you’ve found the perfect portable building to add to your property! You’ve chosen the style, color, size, and all the special features you want and know exactly how you’re going to use it. Now all you have to do is sit back and wait for it to be delivered, right? Well, not exactly.
One of the perks of ordering a prefab building instead of constructing one onsite is that it can be delivered and set up in just a day. But in order for the delivery and installation to go smoothly, there are a few steps you’ll want to take to prepare for delivery day.
Secure any necessary permits.
Some counties, cities, townships, and homeowner’s associations may have certain restrictions and requirements when it comes to portable buildings. For example, you may have to place your building a certain distance from your neighbor’s property lines or, if you live in an area that experiences hurricanes, anchor it into the ground. Before you finalize your order, check to see what permits you’ll need and restrictions you’ll have to follow.
Get your foundation in place.
In order to maintain the quality of your new building and maximize its lifespan, you will want to elevate it so that it is not sitting directly on the ground. This will help keep it dry and ensure it sits evenly. The easiest option for a foundation will be a gravel pad, but you could also get a concrete slab if you want something sturdier. Make sure whatever foundation you choose is in place in the days before your delivery.
Clear a pathway for your delivery team.
Before your building arrives, ensure there is an unobstructed path from the road to where you’ll be placing it. Clear out any obstacles such as fencing, a swing set, vehicles, lawn ornaments, etc. The path must be wide enough for both your new building and the delivery team’s equipment. Don’t forget to check for low-hanging branches or powerlines as well, and inform the team of any they’ll have to avoid.
